What inspired you to start your business?
My focus on finances and money came about through my past personal circumstances of various roadblocks and twists and turns in relationships. These challenges provided the motivation to work with women and their families to empower them with their finances, helping them to get ahead and avoid some of the pitfalls I had encountered along the way. This personal experience together with my qualifications, business experience and acumen, is a powerful combination that develops with each new client I work with.

The Business Expo came about when we moved to the Bay of Plenty and were meeting many other business owners who were struggling to make headway in getting the right connections finding quality suppliers or partner businesses to collaborate with. The inaugural Business Expo took place in March 2018 as a platform to enable businesses to overcome these challenges and to showcase their business in one single day. The Expo generated more than one million dollars of new business for exhibitors and we are still hearing success stories! The next Expo is set for March 2019 and promises to be the Expo where business gets done!
What do you love about running your business?
I love the diversity of what I do, the learning process of each day pushes me forward to provide the very best I can for my clients. Each new learning opportunity provides me with further knowledge that I can then use to help individuals grow and businesses flourish, to reach their goals and full potential. I love the ongoing partnership I form with my clients, true relationships that evolve and endure.
What have been some of your biggest challenges?
When we decided to move to Tauranga, while our business had been going for 2 ½ years, it was still quite young in business terms. I often joke that the person we knew best was the real estate agent who showed us round as we knew no one here. Moving to Tauranga meant we had to start from scratch and go back to basics for a second time to create a new referral and support network. I joined Venus not long after we moved here and love being part of this – it helped immensely to have a connection and feel part of a wider community right from day one.
Do you have a favourite quote?
“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Babe Ruth
Jigsaw is a small team, but we have an amazing team of people around us to support us including Venus, so I love this quote because whether you are a sole trader or a large business, a solid and supportive team is so important to any business.
Who inspires you, and why?
We are all amazing and I constantly meet inspirational people on a day to day basis. I sometimes amaze myself at what I can do, particularly when I may start out by thinking that I can’t do something. Being the shyest girl in the class to where I am now has been an incredible journey and I wish I knew that when I was much younger and backed myself at a much earlier age.
What growth have you experienced being in Venus?
Being more confident that I have a lot to offer other Venus ladies and their networks, and that if they need help, I am able and willing to do that on many levels, both personal and in business. Dealing with such a wide range of clients on a day to day basis provides me with a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be shared!
Women are redefining success and growing businesses on their terms: What does success look like to you?
Success for me is made up of many different things but having the freedom to choose the where, when, who and how’s of life each and every day is important. As my own boss I am totally responsible for where each decision I make takes me, and the consequences of that. Growing a strong team around me to enable a better work/life balance is my next goal.
What’s your favourite pastime when you are not working?
I love landscaping and I love my garden. I’m most happiest pottering with my herbs or flowers, weeding, trimming and enjoying the sunshine against my back. And of course eating the fruits of my labour literally – fresh herbs and veggies. I also love walking on the beach and luckily for me, I don’t live too far away from one of the most beautiful beaches around – bliss.
