What inspired you to start your business?
I started my business when my first child was born as a way to keep doing a job I love and bring in some extra money while staying at home. It’s grown from being a few hours a week to keeping me busy full-time while still giving me the freedom to attend school events and help friends out. Now I can’t imagine going back to working for someone else. I love helping other small business owners with affordable graphic and web design so they don’t have to pay high agency prices or spend time doing it themselves when they could be spending their precious time doing what they love and do best.
Tell us about your business?
My business provides graphic and web design for small businesses with big ideas helping them get noticed in a crowded market. I don’t just focus on making things “pretty”, but make sure that the projects I design are functional and strategic as well. This means balancing my own creativity, with what you, the client wants and has the budget for and what your consumers need.
I can work with your brand’s existing materials to create something that works cohesively with everything that’s come before or if you are ready for a new visual identity I am more than happy to help.
With over 20 years experience in the design/print/web industries, I provide a complete service all your graphic design, web design and print needs, so you don’t have the inconvenience of needing different people or organisations for different items. Whether you require a logo design, brochures, business cards, web design, print advertising, signage, posters, branded clothing or anything in between our team can provide the creative solutions to communicate your message in line with your brand identity and objectives.
What do you love about running your business?
All the amazing and different people I meet and finding out about their businesses and what makes them tick. Everyone is unique but we’re all in this together. I also love the difference I can make when a client goes from DIY design to using a professional. This is everything from the relief I see and hear in the client that I have taken what was a time-consuming job off them and made it amazing to seeing the follow-on effect of the business’s success.
What have been some of your biggest challenges?
In the early days being taken seriously by suppliers and friends and family was a challenge. I had to train friends that they couldn’t just pop round for a chat as I was actually working.
What growth have you experienced being in Venus?
Joining Venus has made me have to get out of the house and talk about my business to others. I’ve met so many wonderful women and learned so much from them.
What’s your favourite pastime when you are not working?
Love walking in the Waitakeres with the family and dog. Winter weekends are often spent down at Mt Ruapehu.
