What inspired you to start your business?
I saw an opportunity in a growing suburb to create a new business and so I went for it.
Tell us about your business?
I give people the opportunity to enhance their health and live a long and healthy life utilising chiropractic care. Viva means ‘long life’ and this was the inspiration for the business name as every day I see people’s lives change for the better when they are under chiropractic care.
I specialise in pregnancy and babies and children and have post graduate training in this area, though I love to see members of the whole family flourish with chiropractic care.
What do you love about running your business?
I love to be the creator of my ‘work’ journey, and having my own business enables me to do that; though I don’t see what I do as ‘work’ as I love what I do and every day I am grateful to say that I love being of service and helping people.
What have been some of your biggest challenges?
Initially the biggest challenge was finding a location to practice from – and when that sorted itself out everything fell into place. Also I found that managing my time initially was a challenge as I am a one person business!
Do you have a favourite quote?
Have no judgements about your life.
Have no expectations – and give up the need to know what happens tomorrow.
Who inspires you, and why?
Dr Joe Dispenza – he’s a chiropractor and a neuroscientist. He’s an inspiration to me as he is teaching people how they can rewire their brain to bring about transformation, healing and a new personal reality/ personality. So many people have had their lives changed for the better with the work that they have done with Dr Joe – and healing the world is a vision of mine.
What growth have you experienced being in Venus?
I’ve had amazing growth in my 5 plus years with Venus. The confidence to start my own business without hesitation is probably the biggest. The support that I had from my fellow Botany members at that time was huge – and I will be forever grateful for that, along with their inspiration and business knowledge.
Women are redefining success and growing businesses on their terms: What does success look like to you?
When I had a think and a look at definitions of success I resonated with this quote from the late Coach John Wooden, who defined success as follows: “ Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” Success is an attitude.
For me it’s a journey and it’s about being satisfied with the choices I’m making each and every day and how I am being in the world. Showing up as my very best self!
What’s your favourite pastime when you are not working?
I love to be out on the water, especially in our beautiful Hauraki Gulf – boating and fishing. I love it most when the water is calm and warm so that I can swim.
